Bell Group N.V. (“BGNV”) was a Curaçao entity which had issued bonds for the financing of the Bell Group, a conglomerate with activities encompassing generally media interests in Australia. In January 1997, in light of the demise of the Bell Group, BGNV was declared bankrupt. Extensive litigation ensued between (trustees of) Bell Group entities and banks which had unjustly given themselves preferential creditor positions in anticipation of the demise of the Bell Group. In 2019 a substantial amount was received by the bankruptcy estate of BGNV and paid out to the litigation funder and bond holders. Douwe Douwes act as one of the bankruptcy trustees of BGNV.
